Hilarious Online Dating Site Disclaimers

by David Evans on October 15, 2008   in Legal

Now that I’m done admonishing Spark Networks for their lifeless Facelink meta-search, I need to give them big props for adhering to the Internet Dating Safety Act guidelines.
Someone in the Spark legal department has a unique sense of 12-point bold font humor, I love this legal disclaimer on the bottom of the Facelink home page.

THANKS [...]

by David Evans on June 6, 2008   in Legal, Marketing, Traffic

LoveHappens isn’t happening anymore.

How could a site with a million visitors just shut down? Could it be because the service was terrible from the start and they couldn’t figure out how to monetize it?
Now thats targeted advertising. Contextual ads triggered by images on the page. Why are dating site ads so poorly targeted?
Spark Networks redesigns. [...]

by David Evans on April 22, 2008   in Legal

This could be a great example of [...]

4-2-08 Links

by David Evans on April 2, 2008   in Legal, Marketing, speeddating

Love this quote from WooMe founder George Berkowski:

It’s just a great way to waste time.

I agree. Note that WooMe is introducing a Youtube-style option to record sessions and make them public. Now we can watch videos of horny guys trying to get a co-ed to take her top off. I’m sure there will be other [...]

Florida has approved the safer dating bill. Opponents of the measure say True.com is just trying to get a marketing advantage over other companies who – if they don’t do background screenings – would have to say so prominently on their site under the bill (SB 1536). It was approved in the Senate Commerce Committee [...]

by David Evans on March 17, 2008   in Legal

Finnish MP Tommy Tabermann has proposed a law granting all couples a seven-day “love vacation” to keep their relationships together.
