It was a great looking site, innovative and fresh beta launch, nice design and features, and still gay dating site Fabulis wasn’t able to grow large enough to remain in existence. Now its a pop-up shop.
Lots of money, expert internet marketing, strong team and last but not least a revolutionary idea (or a clever spin on the usual) are only some of the requirements of a successful dating site.
Fabulis had some of these, but not enough to make it. Fabulis wasn’t different enough to matter in the marketplace. I wish they had talked to me first.
The whole “Let’s start a dating site and make a ton of money” era has been over for years. Reality is that one in every 100 new dating sites will make enough money to take the founder out to a nice dinner every week.
If you are about to hit up your bank account to start a dating site, we should talk first. I’m tired of talking to people who are paying Yahoo $5,000 a week for 34 hit. Tired of people coming to me after they mortgaged their house a second time to take on Match. Tired of hearing how the developer stole their code, or they ran out of money, or their dating site based on communicating with dolphins is going to change the world. I like dolphins, but thats where it should have stayed, an idea.
Dating site executives don’t need another yes man, they need the truth. A single advisory services call with me can save you tens of thousands of dollars and months of headaches, mostly through education and aligning expectations with reality.
Larger sites, I’m just as happy helping add a zero to the end of your revenue numbers. Why not schedule an advisory services call and lets turn your dating business dreams into reality?
