The tech behind 236 eHarmony members getting hitched daily. eHarmony is the leader when it comes to dating site technology. That and a $200 million advertising budget will make you a contender.
For comparison, here’s The Rant Guy on eHarmony. This is one of the more sane and in-depth critiques I’ve seen. Check out his disclaimer:
Please note, I am writing a book on the subject and have interviewed hundreds of people who have used every major service and/or modern method of meeting people. While I use my own personal experiences in this article, they reflect the majority view of those who I have interviewed over the course of the last five years.
I can’t wait to read it.
Facebook’s Big Advertising Experiment Drives New Revenue. This is for PlentyofFish. Facebook is getting better at targeting ads, which drives revenue. $75 million of that revenue is from virtual goods. Its been said that “virtual goods revenues could account for more than $300 million in platform revenue this year, money Facebook isn’t seeing any of.”
Speaking of virtual goods, I had lunch with viximo this week. We talked a lot about the impact of virtual good on the online dating process.
When it comes to real goods, Tigerbow announced that now users can send a real gift to ANY virtual place by using our “Just gimme a link…” function. Instead of entering an email address/Facebook profile/Twitter ID, users can opt to create a gift link that can be copied/pasted anywhere including in a dating network message, LinkedIn correspondence, instant message, blog, virtual world, etc. The new functionality provides orders of magnitude increases in theoretical reach and should also help us identify high probability usage pockets.
