Engage sold to Spark Networks and became Kismeet. Engage spent years and tons of VC money creating a pretty great user interface which Spark promptly destroyed, which killed off all the traffic. Frintro, now called Thread, recently launched on Facebook. Thread is Kismeet for Facebook. It doesn’t make sense to spend boatloads of investor capital creating yet another monolithic dating site where others can play matchmaker when you can Match everyone you know on Facebook. Kismeet has around 30,000 monthly visitors, Facebook has 250 million. You do the math.
Are you single? Matchmaker? Your friends know awesome people. Browse their Facebook profiles and see if you connect. You can ask a friend for an intro, or play matchmaker with your own friends. Everyone has a common thread, find yours.
A VC on Why Craigslist Is Such A Mess. Reminds me of Plentyoffish.
With more than 47 million unique users every month in the US alone—nearly a fifth of the nation’s adult population—it is the most important community site going and yet the most underdeveloped
Craigslist gets more traffic than either eBay or Amazon.com. eBay has more than 16,000 employees. Amazon has more than 20,000. Craigslist has 30.
Only programmers, customer service reps, and accounting staff work at craigslist. There is no business development, no human resources, no sales. As a result, there are no meetings.
A system like Craigslist does result in a lot spam, fraud, and abuse. But it is also certainly the most efficient and cost effective way to make a market.
Like I said, PlentyofFish.
Most get rich quick sites are difficult to stomach, but Keyword Elite2 and the accompanying The Keyword Minute Report were good reading. Looks like the report is not available anymore, will try and find a link that works.
Just got a random email from AdMob saying my account was ready. I don’t remember signing up for it. Trying to keep track of top mobile marketing companies and gauge which ones deliver the best value is a full-time job. Everyone is throwing a ton of cash at these companies to see what works and the mobile marketing companies are raking it in. I just talked to one that has a minimum quarter-million *daily* ad spend.

I’m heading to Maine for a few days to spend some time with clients and celebrate a big win for Team Digicraft.
