Yesterday I mentioned that Zoosk has overtaken Are You Interested as the number one dating application on social networks. This morning I received an email from SNAP Interactive stating 4Q 2008 projected revenue as $1.08 million. Total revenue for 2008 is expected to be $3 million.
Remember when the Facebook application platform opened up and how I urged dating companies to take advantage of the wide-open opportunity to drive traffic from social networks?
SNAP and Zoosk, two companies with little or no online dating experience, walked right up and took over the category, with absolutely no competition from dating sites. Talk about a missed opportunity. It’s practically impossible to get that kind of traction on Facebook now. To the early adopters go the spoils.
SNAP has reached a critical mass of more than 16 million users across its 8 applications.
As far as Zoosk being the number one dating application, lets look at the details. Zoosk spends a lot of money advertising the service in order to drive up the number of installs. This is reflected by the increase in their Monthly Active Users. In comparison, Are You Interested has spent zero dollars to buy installs. A look at the Daily Active Users shows that Are You Interested still has approximately double the daily total of Zoosk, which indicates Zoosk users install the application then don’t come back as often.
Adonomics daily active user stats for both companies tells the story. Zoosk has 340k users, Are You Interested has 630k.
SNAP has recently mentioned mobile dating as a new focus. I wonder what they have planned for the mobile dating market?
