Have you heard about the big blunder eHarmony made recently with it’s “One Night Stand” debacle? The eHarmony article ‘Navigating the One Night Stand’ includes such awkwardness as ‘spontaneous lovin’ and ‘do what makes you happy.’
Christians are having a field day with the marketing miss-step.
Focus on the Family Counselor Joann Condie could fill her days salving the scars of now married former swinging singles. She says research proves there are serious consequences to the type of experimental “hooking up†eHarmony condones.
The teaser for the article stated:
“So you’re a swinging single and you’ve had a one-night stand. What’s the etiquette for establishing boundaries, calling the day after and getting out without hurting feelings?”
The first four sentences of the actual article read:
“While most of us are looking for that special someone to spend our lives with, the single life dictates that sometimes the opportunity for companionship present itself in the form of a one-night stand. While a one-time roll in the hay isn’t exactly emotionally fulfilling, sex in any form can be relaxing, enjoyable, and fun. So maybe it’s closing time and you haven’t found Mr. or Ms. Right. If you are up for it, you can enjoy a romp with Mr. or Ms. Right-for-the-night…”
Eharmony apologized but I’m the damage has been done. The media and the blogosphere is all over the story and eHarmony is coming out looking battered and unsure how to deal with the situation.
OnlineBootyCall took advantage of the situation and sent out a press release. Great quote, “The ensuing backlash from members forced eHarmony to take the proverbial “walk of shame” back to their community and issue an apology.” OBC put together a spoof video,69 dimensions of pleasure, ha!
Note to eHarmony marketing team, leave the cheeky marketing to sites like OBC and OKCupid, you’re way out of your league.
