Slashdot has a great article, Hi, I Want To Meet (17.6% of) You!, written by frequent Slashdot contributor Bennett Haselton wants to make online dating better.

His ideas, at least those which I was able to stay awake through, were interesting.

As with Slashdot, the good stuff is in the comments.

We don’t need YAUDSBSWWTMAMBOOOPM (Yet Another Useless Dating Site by Someone Who Wants To Make A Million Bucks Off Of Other People’s Misery).

Really, just admit that you don’t know how to meet other people, and that you figure if you’re running a dating site, you’ll get to skim all the ads, etc., AND make money without having to really work. Its not going to happen.

That describes more of the dating industry than I’m comfortable with.

Turns out geeks like OKCupid.

Great idea from the comments: Make a Myspace page with the same name as your paid dating site profile. That’s a great idea!

I always tell people I meet on free services to go to my Match profile, which is the one I have spent the most time on, best photos, etc.

Facebook for my social apps and people, Flickr for my photos, Youtube for my movies. Someone is going to figure out how to mash all these services up, which will be fun and useful for 5% of all singles. Still, we can dream.
