A new social network for moms called MomJunction has raised $1.5 million in first round funding. I pulled the following from the press release and the website.
MomJunction is the first full-featured Personal Online Desktop for moms that allows them to manage family, relationships, and information needs all in one place. MomJunction is all about trust and connecting moms. The information exchange is incredibly trustworthy, because you can see how it comes either from your friends or friends of friends. And that makes it unique in today’s social networking environment.
MomJunction utilizes a patent-pending innovation called Ripple™. Ripple flows a member’s questions, tips, knowledge and discussion through her extended network by trusted members of her real life groups. It enables moms to easily connect with other moms and information that they can trust.
There is a lot of action in the family networking space. I’m an advisor to Amiglia, and have been keeping close tabs on the various entrants that keep popping up. It takes a solid feature set and strong business development team to get traction in this growing corner of the social networking arena. Expect several more players to pop up before the usual winner emerges.
