Is Luvoo spokesceleb Carmen Electra going to be the face of video-dating?

Luvoo, the Pink Sheet-traded internet dating startup, appears to be on a roll, announcing a real-time video-conferencing service that doesn’t expose critical personal information.

L. Yvonne Vanhoek, Luvoo President:

Our new global peer to peer Voice over IP and Web cam over IP service will be a valuable addition to our online dating website. We continue to push the envelope with new services and position Luvoo.com as the premier online dating website. Subscriber rates are continuing to climb as we enter new countries.” Our new IP service will enable our valued members the ability to increase their chance of finding and connecting with their special love or friend anywhere in the world.”

Can you imagine Luvoo gaining more marketshare from video-dating than Skype? Several other dating sites have VOIP-based video-conferencing solutions in place. I’m not sold on the services I’ve seen to date.

Sticking people in a chat room together without some sort of guided experience is a recipe for disaster, draws the attention of unsuitable characters and drives women from the site in droves. Just ask Yahoo. The would do well to give members something to do. A game, a test, something interactive to break the ice.

Luvoo will roll out the service sometime in October. Windows only.
