On the heels of Mike Jones writing about the corporate parent of WebDate operating a network of adult sites, I received this:

Out of the top sites targeting the Christian dating niche, only Christian Cafe is actually owned and operated by people from that niche. Can anoyone else substantiate this?

BigChurch.com: owned by Friend Finder Inc., who’s claim to fame is owning the top adult personals site (adultfriendfinder.com), gay site (outpersonals.com), and alternative site (alt.com) online. Supposedly they do their best to hide this fact from their Christian singles members.

ChristianMingle.com: owned by Mormons and based in Utah. They do their best to hide this from their Christian singles members. It seems that Christians regard LDS as a “cult” (not my words.).

LoveandSeek.com: also owned by Mormons, but no longer based in Utah. However, they do have “LDS” as a searchable denomination, much to the consternation of their Christian membership.

I don’t think people pay much heed to the fact that a dating site is owned by a corporate parent with adult industry ties in the case of WebDate. In this age of multi-tiered shell corporations, who can keep track of it all? Hoever, when it comes to faith-based dating sites, I think customers are apt to be much more sensitive to the corporate parent’s background and ethics.
