It’s been an important week for the dating industry. Here are a few stories that didn’t make the front page.
Anonymous calling
A whole slew of companies have tried to enter the dating market to offer anonymous calling services. Most gave up and went after the more lucrative auction market. So why the renewed interest? I’m going to visit Vivox next week to find out why so many telephony companies think online daters are ready to warm up to the notion that anonymous calling will improve their love life.
Legislation update
Southern Illinois State Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion is considering creating legislation to “make sure you have a simple background check on somebody before you allow them to advertise.”
Honolulu is a singles’ paradise
Sperling’s Best Places guidebook series, who have teamed with a deodorant company, AXE, to compile and publish the second annual list of “America’s Best and Worst Cities for Dating.” San Francisco, came in third, just behind Seattle.

Shy Passions is a new online dating site designed specifically for shy singles, regardless of their level of shyness: mild shyness, moderate shyness, extreme shyness, situational shyness, Asperger’s Syndrome, Social Anxiety Disorder, or Social Phobia.
Oh, the irony of it all.
MyBestDate
CSB Electronics claims that MyBestDate is different than other online dating sites due to its “unique and easy to use interface with innovative features those 80% of all other dating sites lack. Nobody wants another shallow dating site.”
Judging by the eye candy all over the site, I’m thinking Electronics companies should stick with soldering or at least call it what it is, R-rated pr0n.
