Location-based dating is just too creepy for the majority of people, which leaves you with an audience of possible matches that isn’t creeped out by publishing their general location all of the time. Under 30, sure go for it. Over 30? Not so much.
There are lots of companies chasing this rainbow, but in the end its a niche within a nice within a niche (under-30 with phone and the requisite app and not creeped out). That is a tiny fraction of the 110 million singles in the US and 25 companies are going to fight over this sliver of the market.
Of course the addressable market for location-based dating sites will grow over time when consumer fear is dealt with and the apps actually work. But for now its a novelty and will remain so for quite some time.
