This week its all about Twitter, who are hosting Chirp, their developers conference.

Last month at SXSW, Twitter CEO Ev Williams announced @anywhere, a new platform that would allow external sites to integrate some key Twitter features (it sounds a lot like Facebook Connect).

  • The goal of @anywhere is to embed Twitter in a site, like The Huffington Post, New York Times, etc. The goal is to remove the friction of using Twitter
  • Few lines of Javascript to get simple functionality up and running
  • Four pieces of functionality: Sing-in, Tweetbox, Hovercards, Connect.

Twitter Places could bring location-aware services to dating sites.

Twitter’s new location feature, Places, will give developers a structured and curated database of places from around the world. User Stream API will give developers access to a feed of user actions on a more granular level than just tweets. The user stream includes mentions, friending and favoriting (the kind of stuff you’re used to seeing in Facebook’s news feed).

Dating sites have been slow to catch on that dynamic profiles give people a much more comprehensive view into a person’s tastes, preferences and personality. It was simple to make profiles easy to update and yet this feature was not embraced by dating sites. Now Twitter is making it even easier to Tweet an update to your profile and take advantage of a users Twitter stream.

I figured out my dating niche after yesterday’s back-and-forth in the comments with Brian at CatholicMatch. I want a dating site that keeps up with current technology and matchmaking trends, is effective, efficient and doesn’t feel like it’s user experience was designed the last time the Red Sox were in the World Series.
