Some time ago I met with Aaron Schildkrout and Brian Schechter in Boston to talk about their online dating startup. Fast forward several months and behold the soft launch of How About We, a dating site that puts the date back in dating. Instead of rating people on their dating profiles, you rate them based on their date ideas.
This is a novel idea and the site looks great. Very clean design and easy to use. No long profiles to complete, all you have to do is rate and submit date ideas. Definitely targeting more casual daters, the date ideas are great inspiration, I found a few ones that I may use here in Boston. Some of the dates are specific, like going to the top of the Empire State Building, whereas others are more event based, like coffee and scrabble.
The site is focused on New York City for now while they fill the database with local singles. Focusing on an initial specific geographic area is a good idea. Keeps marketing spend in check, easier to do live events and once you get lots of people in one geographic area, it’s time to move on to the next one.
When the site officially launches in March, members will start receiving new date proposals every day and others will begin seeing the dates you have created to other members.
I wonder who’s going to want to go ice skating with me on Frog Pond In Boston?
The How About We team threw a party in NYC last weekend. Check out the photos on their How About We Facebook Page and follow them on Twitter.
