PlentyOfFish is now serving images off solid state drives, which employs a technology similar to what is found in the new MacBook Air- no moving parts. Markus has been having trouble with content delivery systems and I guess he thought that faster hard drives were the answer. I’ve always thought pushing content closer to the edge of the network, nearer to your customers, was the way to go.
PlentyOfFish is serving up 5,500 images per second at peak and 50-60,000 new images being uploaded per day. Kudos to Markus for sharing this information, love the transparency.
Speaking of big numbers, longtime sponsor Userplane had a recent day where 600 million ads were served across their network. Wow.
