Over the weekend I joined eHarmony. I had not joined the site in over two years and I was curious to see what has changed. I’ll tell you what has not changed, the hour and a half it takes to get yourself situated on the site.
Hundreds of questions, $10 enhanced personality test and what felt like a dozen emails and I’m finally in the system. Problem is, the system thinks I want to meet 43 year-old women under 5’3″. Maybe they could spend some of that revenue on better matching. Or is that how it works? A week of sub-optimal matches, and then the amazing women start flooding my inbox? What are the chances?
I actually like the eHarmony model, then again, I’m not gay or depressed, I’m just lazy and I like that they do the matching for me. When I’m on Match or any other site I end up spending 4-6 hours a week sending and responding to emails. That’s a lot of free time eaten up that I could be doing something else.
I remain mystified why men and women are still answering the same questions. Forget the scientific matching for a moment, realize men and women are different and ask them different questions.
A final nitpick about eHarmony. I don’t like how they let you decide at what point during the join process other people can see their photos. Hiding photos, don’t waste my time with that.
I joined eHarmony because I am developing a new join form for a dating site and its always a good idea to join a few sites and take screenshots of the process to really get to know the differences between sites.
So I have a folder of screenshots, lots of older women to mark as unsuitable and a good idea what to do and what to avoid when it comes to a join form.
Today I receive what is probably the 10th email from eHarmony in the past few days, stating that I need to upload a photo. Problem is, I already have photos uploaded.
Off to rejoin Match/Yahoo PlentyOfFish and a few other sites. Is there someone I can pay to do this for me?
