I was contacted by a graduate student in New York who is doing a thesis and related radio show about the role of science in online dating. He is taping in a few weeks and I want to put him in touch with a few industry experts. If you’re interested, working in the dating industry or have a personality test/profiling system that would be of interest, contact me.
I’m putting together a list of what I want to talk about on the show.
The status of personality testing: What works and what doesn’t. Spring Street made millions with 5 questions, eHarmony hundreds of millions on hundreds of questions, Chemistry growing strong, with 25 questions. What else can we measure?
Aromatherapy/Pheromones: I wore a patch last year for a week to see how women responded, results mixed and I smelled like bad perfume.
How science will be used in online dating sites in 2008 and beyond: DNA, voice analysis, image analysis and many other topics.
Interesting that several of my current clients are involved with leading-edge technologies and science related to helping people find better matches more efficiently. I love working with these types of companies- driven, well-funded, and a blast to work with, my kind of people.

DNA == high cost, needs a sample (i.e, blood, saliva).
voice analysis, image analysis, music preferences, handwriting anlaysis, color preferences and other == lack of precision by distortion.
If they use “DNA, voice analysis, image analysis and many other topics” how are they going to compare one pattern to the others?

Actual Compatibility Tests are only *fueled* by Marketing Policies/Strategies and not by serious scientific evidence.

Answer: Never, because ……. the WHOLE PRECISION of the matching algorithm of each site is less than any client could achieve searching by his/her own!!! (full disclosure: I am fully tired of saying that!!!)
Even PlentyOfFish (”matching algorithm are based in the statistical gold standard of modern test theory”) NOW allows its members to tune/change/synthesize the 5 factors its test measures:
so it is only a sophisticated way to search in a database! that could be full of *retouched/improved/fakes* profiles like mines! (Oh, I only use them to make some “tests”)
and also
PlentyOfFish removed the numerical results of compatibility between prospectives mates (before it used to appear a two integer figure number).

The 16PF5 is a NORMATIVE & well known personality test used by job recruiters, ready from 1949, available in different languages and no other actual online dating site is using it!!! (full disclosure: I am fully tired of saying that!!!)
