There was a football game yesterday. Like you, I watch it for the commercials. And what’s up with the first Superbowl ever with no cheerleaders? I didn’t even know the two teams didn’t have cheerleaders. I loved the VW commercial but this one depicting a guy getting post-first-date audio-announced Facebook News Feed status updates was great too.

Chevy Volt dating radiusFirst, I thought it was a Chevy Volt (plug-in all-electric car with 35-mile range but then I realized that it also has a gas engine.) If that was the case, here’s the dating radius around Boston for Volt drivers. That would be funny to see in a profile. “Ladies, I am *serious* about my search radius, if you are more than 35 miles away I simply can’t date you.”

Why are people going on a first date already Facebook friends, does that happen often? Getting dumped on Facebook sucks. Getting dumped on Facebook and hearing it from your car is grounds for murderous road rage.

What happens if the update was “You are a loser, I never want to see you again and FU for not picking up the check!”? They guy could get upset and drive off the road, or worse, right? And who would post “best first date ever” on the other person’s public Facebook wall? And finally, if that peck on the cheek was after the best first date ever…

Mobile phone-based dating startups are now officially boring. Forget looking at dinky little profiles on your phone (so 2007!), dealing with the draconian Apple App Store, or  searching for people around you on a service with 12 people in your area code. (OK, so investors will fund the hell out of this sector until there is a clear winner, so go have it it but the carnage is going to be hellacious and not a lot of sexy M&A activity except for 2-3 players that probably don’t even exist yet).

Mobile phone dating is now officially uninteresting. I want full profiles photos brought up on the navigation system in my car, profile essay details pumped through the stereo system, geo-locative matching systems based on car GPS, touchscreen and voice-activated winks and canned message (great for flirting in traffic!)

The new industry partnerships are going to be along the lines of Match and Garmin, Plentyoffish and OnStar, Spark Networks and Android, and Meetic and Blaupunkt (or whomever makes great car stereos these days).

I’m starting a new automotive partnership practices division, who’s going to be my first client? ;-)
