According to this Mashable poll about Chatroulette:
“Everyone finds his own way of using the site,” Andrey Ternovskiy told the Times. “Some think it is a game, others think it is a whole unknown world, others think it is a dating service.” In fact, the Missed Connections section of Craigslist now has scores of postings listing the place of meeting as “Chatroulette,” adding a whole new digital dimension to the realm of the wistfully romantic.
The hype around Chatroulette is amazing, incredible amount of exposure in recent weeks. My eyeballs are still burning from my last session, best taken in measured doses.

yup. video dating is where it’s at! ;)
That’s what the kids tell me.
Daily, there are so many new missed connection ads spread across the different craigslist cities, for chatroulette, that I’ve created a mini site on MissedConnections.com to collect them together and boost the chances of these people reconnecting. The mini site is at http://chatroulette.missedconnections.com . Apologies for promoting it here, but I hope it is relevant and of interest to some!
Just found this, tinychat have brought out a chatroulette inspired product ‘TinyChat Next’: http://next.tinychat.com/ . Not sure if it could be used by dating sites looking to try out random video chat??
Chatroulette is the new HotOrNot. There will be imitators and alternatives but I question the need for lots of clones (there will be a ton in coming weeks. Who wants another version of the site if it’s the exact same experience?
I would be surprised if any dating site tried to do instant-on video, it’s a total liability. Next is a nice application though, very clean.
Just the other day there was a job post on craigslist looking for a programmer to create a chatroulette clone. Somethings I’ve read suggest that the bandwidth cost for this kind of site is too much versus potential income to be viable, however Andrey (Chatroulette creator) claims advertising almost covers hosting costs:
“Network throughput is 7 gigabits a second…Bandwidth bills show sums which shock me as a teenager, but I am not very worried….I have put only four links on the bottom as advertisements. And what is interesting, is that these advertisements almost cover all expenses, just those four links on the bottom!”

That is a serious set of tubes.
People will click on anything, thank God for that.
It’s a weekend project gone amok, what a great story.
Chatroulette is the latest site to go if you want to chat with the most socially depraved people you will ever interact with.
The new internet craze which was created by a 17years old boy from Russia, allows user to connect randomly to another user and interact with live video chat.
No doubt the latest invention have attracted so much comments and attentions from all over the world.
Chatroulette may not be the only site that brings so much frenzy and weirdoes, site like http://www.spinthecam.com seem to offer much more advance features than chat roulette. Chat roulette is made up of bare texts and yet, the popularity increases on a daily basic
I don’t see chat roulette ending the existent of social networks sites like Twitter or Facebook
Your site doesn’t work with Firefox on a Mac. What advanced features, you’re just like chatroulette,
here comes another chatroulette clone: 50cams.com
