Introducing the Online Dating Insider Newsletter

by David Evans on July 23, 2009 in Uncategorized

I just sent out the inaugural edition of the Online Dating Insider newsletter. After seven years later, it finally has a companion newsletter. You can sign up for the newsletter here. I recently posted about the partnership between DatingHeadshots and HonestyOnline. The newsletter follows up on the story, hopefully it will get people excited about safe dating, authentic photos and profile improvement services.

The newsletter has several goals:

  • Turn the online dating industry on to hot to companies, products and services.
  • Keep the media, investors and other related parties informed about what’s going on in the online dating industry.
  • Links back to articles at OnlineDatingPost.com that garnered a lot of comments and interest.
  • Try some new things like longer-form posts and serialized articles.
  • Experiment with new things, sponsorship opportunities, podcasts, video, etc.

I’ll be trying new things in coming editions until I get a sense for what people want to read about. One thing I know is that I don’t want it to be a mirror copy of this blog.

I’m also starting a separate version for media/pr people. Tons of people email me every week with new startups, ideas and stuff they are pitching. The best of the best will be passed on to major media outlets worldwide.

Caveats: I tried to be as careful as possible about who I sent it to and I’m apologizing in advance if readers felt spammed. Not my intention.

I’m aware that I need to have a real designer put together a nice looking template, I put this one together myself and it could use improvement.

Your feedback is invaluable – please let me know what you think of the newsletter.

My opinion is that Newsletters got their ass kicked really hard when blogs became popular.
With newsletters the content will be in the inbox of your (limited number of) readers, not on your blog where it can be found and read by anyone (thus also driving traffic to your ad based website).

When you send a newsletter you basically \intrerupt\ the user while with a blog the user can read at its own pace.

Writing content for the newsletter takes as much time as writing content for your blog!

Good points. Counterpoint: I am creating a monthly newsletter for media interested in online dating trends. Having this show up in their inbox w/o having to search me out is a big deal. Blog is good for some people, newsletters for others, email version of blog for still more people. Choice is good.

Casual, you signed up and misspelled your email address. Want me to fix it? Not sure how else to do it, new system and all.
