Spark Networks Acquires HurryDate

by David Evans on February 1, 2007   in Finance

Spark Networks announced today that it has acquired the assets of HurryDate, a leading online personals and singles events company.

Greg Liberman, Spark Networks President:

Adding HurryDate to the Spark family is another step towards expanding our offline presence and solidifies our position as the only leading online personals provider to effectively ‘marry’ the online and offline dating worlds. We are focused on smoothing the process of introduction by making it easier for singles to meet and get to know one another whether online or offline.

Nothing known about the price, yet.

Have you been to a speed dating event recently? I have. Shudder. In fact I ran one. Definitely a certain demographic that goes to speed dating events. As long as the money is green, they say.

I went to a few HurryDate events in Boston several years ago. HurryDate must be making a mint, otherwise why get involved with offline unless its with Great Expectations?

Is HurryDate the premier player? Tom Jaffee, founder of 8MinuteDating is a friend, now in FL after leaving Boston (nice move!). I always thought someone would snap up 8MD. Perhaps people like 4 or 6 minute dates better than eight?

People may like meeting everyone instead of 8 randomly selected attendees. PreDating is still going on – I’m going to an event later this month.
