I usually read Valleywag to find out who Sergy is dating or what San Francisco millionaire geek threw up at the Yelp party but here we have some actual typing on the keyboard about the differences in stats at Comscore, with Compete weighing in.

Compete is new, savvy and know what’s broken in the stats game. Hitwise is great for trends and zeitgeist tracking, Comscore is who the people with the big checkbooks use when buying advertising or companies outright, and in between there is everything else, Alexa, various toolbars, etc.

The online stats world remains a mess, but at least we’ve stopped moving it around the room and have begun addressing the core issues about audience measurement, the role of AJAX and why a poorly designed site gets more views than one with clean navigation and UI.

Compete’s “where do these traffic numbers come fromâ€? post.
