Oh the intoxicating scent of feature-driven value-added services. Yahoo is offering three new search features.
Sort by who’s new
See more faces
Hide profiles
The enhanced Photo gallery view is great. Being able to roll over a photo to see their opening line is nice. What I can’t stand is the tiny white text on the aqua-green background, a User Interface no-no.
Future search on dating sites will employ boolean search terms hidden with AJAX or Flash style photo galleries and UI components.
“Show all NEW profiles WITH photos, WITHIN my parameters, that DON’T mention the phrase “your enticement I make fun meetings” who’s personality profile DOES match my test results AND has been background-checked and verified, for felonies and actual height and weight.”
Hiding profiles is a great feature, one I don’t use enough. After a while, I’m sure the ladies are as sick of seeing my pic as I am of theirs.
Someone at Yahoo should remove the generic ads at the bottom of the search pages. I’m logged in and reviewing my search pages and at the bottom I see ad to sign up for Yahoo Personals. Redundant.

I love the photo lineups. I call them the “Yahoo Beauty Contest” .. where anyone who doesn’t have good profile text is doomed to compete with the throngs of happy people who look just as good in jeans or an evening gown, love to go out or stay in and last read the Davinci Code….
Too bad Yahoo seems to base their “NEW” member algorithm on when the profile text was last changed (which is what Match used to do — allowing people to constantly update their profile and “float” to the top of searches)…
I’m still of the opinion that one of the canned flirts (or whatever Yahoo calls them) should be “I’m reading your profile and typing with one hand…”

Unless I’ve missed something entirely, Yahoo Personals is still lacking the most useful search feature of all– the ability to find people for whom you fit their search criteria. It makes the service not very useful if I have to sort through the results myself. And, it’s disheartening to be presented with profiles of women who clearly wouldn’t want to date me. If I wanted to meet women who don’t want to date me, I’d just go to a bar.

Yahoo also made some other smaller design changes. They redid their search splash page, are now showing the number of additional photos members have in search results, and have removed all quick links from search results.
I’m curious to what everyone thinks of not having quick links in search results. One of the benefits I can see from not including quick links is that it forces members to actually look at profiles before taking any action.
