Recently, PlentyofFish launched a replacement to it’s chemistry test. The new chemistry matches are the top 30 people you are most likely to enter into a relationship from on the site.   My matches are people that we think you could date, which could be thousands of matches. “My matches” is based on your behavoir, ie you message only smokers you see only smokers.

Based on a few emails back and forth with POF it looks like the feature is based on the existing chemistry test questions all new members are required to complete, along with information from profile fields and some other datapoints. The POF chemistry test is 48 questions and profile questions number around 10.

I like how direct POF is about the new feature. “Users you are most likely to marry. If you date someone on this list the chances of breaking up are dramatically reduced.”

Judging by this photo, POF is also crowd-sourcing the management of people’s photos. The feature is called “Rate Other User Images” but what you’re really doing is flagging photos that need attention. I was expecting to be able to rate say on a scale of 1-5 and then see a leaderboard of the highest-voted photos, preferably in my search area. They keep sending me photos of guys, a sure-fire way to get me to ignore the feature.

Speaking of photo optimization, given yesterday’s landing page optimization webinar, this got me thinking about dating site profile page optimization. There is a reason why Match has one of the best profile layouts in the business, it’s clean, simple and fairly easy to decipher. But what if there is some kooky layout which is more effective?

Perhaps Herway has something to say about profile pay layouts, especially since they are in Beta. Remember, Always Be Testing.

This is a terrific partnership. I’ve been working hard to get complimentary companies to work together while pitching their services to online dating sites. Both startups and established dating sites need an a la carte menu of services to choose from. Right now the online dating business development process seems pretty broken and I hope to change that.

Dating sites often don’t have the technical resources to implement third-party technology solutions, but thankfully this new crop of partners have made integration and implementation much easier than say a generation ago.

Ric Fleisher of Honesty Online was on Ask the Cyber-Dating Expert Radio Show today talking about the company. I spent the 4th of July weekend hanging out with both companies, exciting things are coming, I’ll keep you posted.

Researching the amount of images Facebook deals with every day, I found the following:

• 2-3 Terabytes of photos are being uploaded to Facebook every day
• They have just over one petabyte of photo storage
• They serve over 15 billion photo images per day
• Photo traffic peaks at over 300,000 images served per second

I found Constant Content Screening via a question that was asked on LinkedIn. CCS is part of Telecommunications On Demand.Think of the hundreds of millions of profiles and images on dating sites, Facebook and Myspace.

Most companies hire scores of people who approve profiles and photos all day. CCS takes the burden of the task off a sites’ hands, providing content screening services right here in the US. From what I understand they are less expensive than if you hired people to to the filtering in-house. CCS offers a variety of other services that dating and social sites will find interesting.

Pretty soon the machines will take over the photos review process, which will put some people out of work but overall will be better for the industry. Then the machines will do the matching, and then the dating, and we can sit at watch Youtube videos all day like we’re supposed to.

Facebok had a Hackathon back in January that resulted in a plug-in for iPhoto that enables photo uploads directly into Facebook profiles. Gone are the days of the 10-step photo upload. Now you can export photos directly from your iPhoto library to a Facebook album, complete with captions and tags.
