Online Dating Niches, How Small is Too Small?

by David Evans on February 9, 2010   in Niche

First, some research from PeopleMedia, who says the majority of black men and women don’t seem care about Valentine’s Day.

A minority, however, does take the holiday to heart, scrambling for any date at all (15 percent) or seeking the comfort of a favorite vice (12 percent). And that’s especially true for Black men, who are [...]

This is one session I wish I had been able to attend last week at iDate. People Media VP Ron Worthy told the story of how the leading niche dating brand went from startup to Match.com acquisition in a few short years. People Media operates 27 individual web properties, reaching nearly 4 million unique users [...]

When it comes to niches one of my favorite originals is FarmersOnly. Of course PeopleMedia is now the clear 500-pound gorilla in the space with it’s network of niche sites, but I’m still a fan of small, passionate dating sites based on well-defined niches. They may not make millions but they have great stories [...]

I mentioned a few niche dating sites and went into my usual rant about being more interested in a giant single shared database of members than 2,000 separate sites, each with their own walled-garden of profiles, marketing spend [...]

by David Evans on November 21, 2006   in Dating Sites, Niche

Single Parent Love Life is a new online community created for single parents and the enlightened singles open to meeting them. The founders are ex-Lavalife alumnae. I love the niche, single parents are a whole market to themselves, and are totally under served in the dating market.

I’m a bit of a design snob. There [...]

Where did the week go? I’m busy with all sorts of client work, hence the slow posts. I’m building the next generation of online dating and social networking sites and helping solution providers build out their value proposition for top dating sites. I can’t talk about much, you’ll just have to see the fruits of [...]

Match.com, the Latest Niche Site?

by David Evans on September 18, 2006   in Dating Sites, Niche

I was clicking around Match recently and see that members can now search by state, major city and various communities: religion, non-smoking, teachers, liberal, athletic, etc.

Match is taking a play from the Matchmaker and many other dating sites (and Facebook), by creating smaller user communities out of it’s date warehouse. I never received notice [...]

Clown Dating

by David Evans on August 17, 2006   in Dating Sites, Niche

I received an email from PodDater saying that someone had left me a message. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was a spam from the Clown Dating Agency.

Circus is a magical business, but it can be difficult to meet new people and form lasting relationships when you’re on the road performing.

The Clown [...]
