  <p>By today, businesses with publicly accessible Web sites that accept credit cards are supposed to have had their code inspected for software flaws by an outside assessor or have a firewall installed that inspects code automatically.</p>

  <p>If businesses are found to be out of compliance, the banks that accept their credit card payments could be fined.</p>

  <p>The standard was issued in September 2006, so it shouldn't be a surprise.</p>
