SuccessfulMatch was at the Affiliate Summit and wrote in to say that the show was a big success. 4,000 people showed up. Only three dating sites were exhibiting, SuccessfulMatch, SinglesNet and Match. I enjoyed my conversation with SuccessfulMatch at iDate, we’re working together on a number of projects which I’ll talk about more at a later date.

Anti-piracy company Mediadefender is receiving a significant amount of revenue from adult affiliate programs.

MediaDefender is better-known for receiveing $4,000 to protect music albums and $3.6 million from a large studio to protect just 4 movies.

MediaDefender’s Ben Grodsky said in an email:

One of the theories I’ve had about why the LimeWire redirects sell so many porn subscriptions is because one basically can’t get porn on old versions of LimeWire because our popups and spoofs overwhelm the user.

In the same email, Adult Friend Finder was mentioned as one of the affiliate programs they were working with, and probably made a lot of cash from. This is confirmed by another email, where they discuss the conversion rates:

Adult Friend Finder converts 1 in 2000 on LimeWire. If we want more users, Dylan’s eDonkey messages would get us a lot of Europeans that are a little bit older crowd….

Instead of taking the high road and creating a service that genuinely helps people decide on the right dating site and getting paid for it, this marketing troll is spamming filesharing networks with porn ads. Nice. And you wonder why people still get hives thinking about online dating.

I had a hard time dealing with what I learned about the affiliate marketing industry “best practices” last week. Then to find this article, argh. Maybe it is time for two internets, I’d pay $40 a month to be on the top tier ad-free internet, the rest can be surfed for free, scammers, spammers and trolls throughout.

Dear Pilot Group. I went to sign up as an affiliate today. How come your banner sizes are different for social dating and social networking? The smallest size for dating is 250×250, don’t you have anything smaller? Fix your category listing, it’s not showing all banners. Make it easier to select a specific category of ads. Should not be an “advanced” option. Creating links is impossible. Your affiliate program need a lot of work. The email address you provide for affiliates bounces and your convoluted contact form took three minutes to submit. If this is the quality of your own affiliate program, what’s the actual dating software like? Not exactly confidence inspiring.
