Lavalife Prime Starts Charging Seniors

Senior dating site Lavelife Prime is about to begin charging it’s 40,000 members. It will be interesting to see what the attrition rate is once the paywall is in place. Wait, it’s for people over 45, not exactly seniors. Then why does search start at 40? Confusing. Depressing that I am eligible in five years.

Friday Afternoon

Took a nice run today, my body is not used to the heat, 73 today. Running along the Charles this time of year is sobering, as the Boston Marathoners in training fly by doing 6-minute miles.

Hot new niche site, gorgeousgrandmas.com

NY Times has article (reg req’s) about senior dating. Not much to it but here are some stats. According to Nielsen/Net Ratings, the number of online dating site users 55 or older rose 19.4 percent in the last year. Match.com’s 50-plus membership has tripled since 2000. Seniors market flat

In August, more than 16 percent of those active on the top five dating sites, including Yahoo Personals and Match.com, were 55 and over, and more than 5 percent were 65 and over, according to Nielsen/NetRatings Inc. Online dating appeals to seniors

According to the StatsmanJournal, registrations by singles 65 and older grew 122 percent last year on Match.com.
The singles trend is expected to explode after 2011, as the baby-boom generation enters its golden years. At their peak, boomers will drive the over-65 population up to 25 percent from slightly less than 13 percent today.
