Facebook Ad Targeting Still Not Good Enough

I changed my relationship status on Facebook from Single to Its Complicated this morning. Sure enough the ads went from 100% dating to totally generic junk. Changing back to Single, its dating ads all the way down the column. Given that 24% of online display ads are on Facebook, I expect a lot better targeting and variation of ads.

My little experiment confused a lot of friends today with my relationship status change. The things I do for this blog, you have no idea.

    Notice that even though Facebook knows I’m a single straight man they show me ads for men.

    Most people do not look on facebook for relationships. Dating sites are the best place to look.
