Lots of dating sites have tried adding video profiles. The problem is that they are difficult to monitor. As I said in a recent post, Video will take off at some point when there is artificial intelligence or effective crowdsourcing capabilities able to identify and censor inappropriate behavior in real-time. Right now it’s simply too much of a liability (resource and legal) for dating sites to offer video profiles.
I am a huge believer of the power of video profiles. You can learn a lot more about a person from their profile when the traditional About Me and About You essay questions are complemented by a short video.
I was pointed to this fun video of a woman balancing 15 books on my head, reciting pi to the 100th digit, and solving a rubik’s cube. This just a silly example of how much you can learn about a person when they are involved in pursuits they find challenging and important. Regardless of what video profiles look like in the future, I hope they don’t look like the one below.

I agree that video profiling would give you a more accurate first impression of some, but as you say, it would be extremely difficult to monitor and would be open to all sorts of abuse, so i think the more reputable dating sites are reluctant to use it. I do think that also voice recordings of the member could also give a more accurate impressing then text, and would possibly be easier to monitor.
Im sure at some point in the not too distant future there will be software available to make such recordings much easier to monitor, fingers crossed
