Google Trends Comparison Between OKCupid and PlentyofFish

by David Evans on February 23, 2010 in Traffic

Plentyoffish-OKCupid-Google-trends.png Traffic stats tell a story, as do what people are searching for. Here’s a Google Trends screenshot of PlentyofFish and OKCupid. See how POF is spiky and all over the place whereas OKC is a more gradual and stable curve? Also notice how many of the spikes in searches between the two happen in lockstep. Google Trends is simply another datapoint to consider.

Ya nice try, thats because we killed off that search term after buying pof.com and its been replaced by POF. There is still absolutely no comparison if you type in all of the spellings.

You killed off plentyoffish as a search term? Well you know your terms best, seems surprising to me. I was only looking at what I considered what people would type in, which definitely is not pof where you have the first two positions and not much else. In any event, I’ll fascinating to see what search terms people use, a lot of them are quite counterintuitive.

Whats so suprising, look at the chart, plentyoffish and plenty of fish were equal in referals and all of a sudden Plenty of fish spiked as did Pof and plentyoffish as one word is constantly declining.

Interesting dip in trend activity on POF during the recession at the end of ’08/ start of ’09 where okc looks rather smooth. 2010 recovery in store for both as we see pockets of economic improvement in US?

POF has removed their forums however I have noticed a seperate site crop up, http://www.pofusers.com .

What’s interesting about this serperate site is it has adsense ads so we can target our campaigns to pofusers through google.

I’m not sure if pofusers.com is owned by pof however it does appear to be really popular. I’ve been getting pretty good conversions for my dating site by targeting pofusers.com and pof.com in Adwords.

POF Markus is a control freak Time and time one tries to reg, says YES welcome, then hey presto you are not in the system , so you go thru all the shit all over
Ok Cupid is a breathe of fresh air– totally relaxing place to be
POF, try searching without reg and it forces one to reg
You cant search multiple countries as in Cupid
Markus do not try control , or your site will be simply gobbled up
