This Valentine’s Day there will be Fewer Lonely Farmers

farmersonly.png When it comes to niches one of my favorite originals is FarmersOnly. Of course PeopleMedia is now the clear 500-pound gorilla in the space with it’s network of niche sites, but I’m still a fan of small, passionate dating sites based on well-defined niches. They may not make millions but they have great stories to tell.

Great testimonial: Recently, a member called to thank Farmers Only. She met the man of her dreams. On their first date, he drove the 3.5 hours to her home and, knowing she worked with horses, he brought 40 bales of hay instead of the traditional flowers.

How awesome is that? I don’t like to go out to dinner on the first date, let alone lug around bales of hay.

Jerry from Farmersonly just called me right after I posed this, really nice guy. He mentioned getting 1,700 interview requests from around the world when he launched in 2005.
Site is currently inundated with older women from Texas, he needs more country men, no city slickers need apply. FIY Farmersonly gets much more traffic and pageviews than you would expect.

I wonder how much revenue he brings in? It seems like a good site, but a small market. I would try to expand to other sites, maybe Christian sites which seem to appeal to the rural, southern/midwest market. Did he ever think about doing a reality TV show or licensing the rights, there was a dating show for Cowboys and female city slickers.

I think the Christian market is pretty well sewn up, but perhaps you’re right. Good idea about the TV show, not that real farmers have time or interest for that sort of thing. If you spend time on the site you’ll see there is an authenticity associated with the people there that doesn’t lend itself to Bachelor-style celebrity.

Hello, I am trying this line out because all the other ones has fell. Anyway, I am looking for someone i can chat with, become friends with, and if things go good maybe more. As far as a relationship goes, I like to take things slow, meaning friends first. I like taking walks, cooking together for a nice dinner together, movies, card games, some video games. So if i sound like someone you would like to get to know send me a message I’ll be waiting
