"They have the first real-time ad optimization platform for advertisers."

uh huh, just a bunch of hype they don't actually allow impression level bidding. All they are doing is applying a discount to impressions deep in a users session.

"TheFind launches 'buying engine' product search from 500,000 stores. When is someone going to nail the dating site aggregator search engine model and finally get it right? It's taking far to long for this to become reality. Really surprising that someone (besides me) hasn't figured it out yet."

TheFind applies machine learning and semantic search to shopping, it is only a unidirectional recommendation engine.

You are probably suggesting a bidirectional (two-way) recommendation engine based on Collaborative Filtering (a.k.a Mutual filtering / Social filtering) for online dating purposes, but Collaborative Filtering had been proven only good for fun, for flirting, for entertainment purposes, for instant gratification and not for serious daters looking for a long term relationship with commitment.

If A_likes_B and B_likes_A, it does not imply B_likes_A with the same intensity A_likes_B.
or
If A_likes_B and B_likes_A, perhaps A_likes_B for short-term mating but B_likes_A for long-term mating.

Psychologists and other Academics had discovered that men and women have 2 "psychologies": "the short-term mating strategy psychology" and "the long-term mating strategy psychology", that is part of the new discovery uncovered by Eastwick and Finkel 2008; also Kurzban and Weeden, 2007; Todd, Penke, Fasolo, and Lenton, 2007 who found that people often report partner preferences that are not compatible with their choices in real life.

Moreover persons under hormonal treatment (like women taking contraceptive pills) have short-term partner preferences variations.

Please check:
1) the paper "Recommender System for Online Dating Service" Brozovsky & Petricek (2007)
"... User interface may introduce bias in the sense that users instead of providing their personal preference try to guess the global preference. This reduces the usefulness of ratings provided.... "

2) the interview, last April 11 2009, to Mr. Potter at OnlinePersonalsWatch, who had said:
"attractiveness appears to be the most important characteristic regardless of the information provided (at yesnomayB online dating site)"

3) the paper "Does the contraceptive pill alter mate choice in humans?" Alvergne & Lummaa (2010).
"Female and male mate choice preferences in humans both vary according to the menstrual cycle. ... . Because only short-term but not long-term partner preferences tend to vary with the menstrual cycle (Gangestad, S.W. and Thornill, R. (2008) Human oestrus), we predict different effects of the pill on mating decisions depending on the context and the women's opportunities."

Long-term mating with commitment is all about personality similarity.

Kindest Regards.
