On Friday I am heading to Orlando to speak at the Florida Restaurant Show. Tom Jaffe, founder of 8MinuteDating and MatchEvents and I will be sharing tips on how restaurants and bars can use the Internet to reach the 100 million singles in the US. Location-based services, mobile, social networks and social media are the general themes I’ll be touching on.
I also want to talk about how dating sites are currently working with restaurants and bars. Have you had much luck with events, specials, promotions, etc? What about geo-targeted advertising, speed dating, etc? What new ways could dating sites work with bars and restaurants? Let me know and I’ll give you a shout-out during the talk.

We’re still in the early stages, so we haven’t done much work yet with bars and such. I’ve talked with a number of bar owners here in NYC, and most seemed incredibly willing to work with us. Some offered to just host the events (with us footing the whole bill), others said they’d do it if we imposed a two drink minimum, and others said bring your people and we’ll email our list to let people know about your events.
I think there’s a lot out there that can be done, but contacting individual restaurants would be a nightmare… plus, databases like Zagat, Citysearch etc., already exist – so trying to reinvent the wheel could to costly.
Hope the conference goes well for you.
