Jason, I do not slam innovative startups for the most part. I think you mean that I often mention that it takes a lot of money to drive enough traffic to a site to get critical mass. That's not slamming, thats a market reality. Online dating is about marketing, first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

After talking to hundreds of dating startups over the past seven years, I have fairly decent intuition about teams that will go somewhere with their idea, and those that won't. Not a crystal ball by any means.

It's a startup in stealth mode, not much to say right now except they seem like a solid team with great track record, access to capital and laser focus and a new spin on an old idea which got me excited.

If you know someone who might want to talk to the team, by all means let me know.

Is it Fernando's idea? If not, maybe he can apply for the job and at least get paid for something.

I think everything's been done before, so unless they want to churn out new technology, they might need some new blood instead of recycled programmers.

Dave,

I hope you find this comment a little more objective and offer a decent response either here or as another article. Without giving away the 'Secret Sauce' of this start-up can you explain why this 'fascinating' venture will have a better chance of succeeding over any other dating start up. Deep down the OD space doesn't really want to innovate (I concede that doesn't mean we should stop trying) but you and Mark regularly slam innovative start ups and primarily because you both know that they spend 100+m to on marketing.

Why is this one any more compelling or potentially better positioned to overcome the same challenges and hurdles.

I have a yon of stuff to say on this and also about the technology request (happen to know the perfect person too) but I will leave it here and then pick it up after your response.
