Weddings ceremonies range from heartfelt and emotional celebrations of love to “get me to the booze and the bridesmaids.” I enjoyed this dance-themed wedding party entrance, fun!

Mark Cuban nails the problem with free.

There will always be a company that replaces you. At some point your BlackSwan competitor will appear and they will kick your ass. Their product will be better or more interesting or just better marketed than yours, and it also will be free. They will be Facebook to your Myspace, or Myspace to your Friendster or Google to your Yahoo. You get the point. Someone out there with a better idea will raise a bunch of money, give it away for free, build scale and charge less to reach the audience. Or will be differentiated enough, and important enough to the audience to maybe even charge more. Who knows. But they will kick your ass and you will be in trouble.

Black Swan is on my night table right now. Great book.

The majority of the self-help gurus promoting books which teach men how to sleep with women way out of your league leave a lot to be desired. There is a whole ecosystem of companies, ranging from incompetent copycats to a few who actually help men who lack certain social skills improve their game while not appearing too sleazy.

The latest in a dense crop of e-books is Copy, Paste & Bang. Howard Stern likes it, so you should forget everything you know about communicating with women, read this book and enjoy eternal happiness and an address book full of women with names that end in “i”.

I joined Fling this week to do some research and the welcome email said “Welcome to SITE_NAME! Thanks for signing up. Have fun!” 17 million monthly visitors and they can’t get the welcome email right.

The Husband Store.

There are some good entrepreneur lessons in My Startup Experience: VC, Entrepreneurship, Self-Analysis & The Road Ahead, but what really caught my attention were these statistics:

PPC: 88% of all SEM spend VS. SEO: 11% of all SEM spend
PPC: 10% of all search clicks VS. SEO: 90% of all search clicks

Relevant content with descriptive links can really help raise your site’s organic search results. Why do so many sites skip this step in their SEM campaigns?

Travel and vacation for the next two weeks. Working on some longer thought pieces while I’m AFK and trying to enjoy the five weeks of summer we’re having here in Boston.

The dance-themed wedding party entrance was fantastic, I wonder if this was real or just staged for fun. There was not sign of the father of the bride on the dance floor though,

“Mark Cuban nails the problem with free.”

So your saying that only free sites have competitors and as soon as you start charging you will remain king of the hill forever and never have to worry about silly things like competition and innovation.

Real, not everyone has a father to walk them down the aisle.

Fair point but in England and maybe the rest of UK, you tend to ask and uncle or even and older friend to do this honour. In the traditional wedding ceremony the role of the father giving away the bride is very important.

Markus, my point, which I should have mentioned, is that there is always a company coming to swoop in and take market share based on what existing sites are not doing to satisfy customer demand. Just as POF entered as a free service to take market share from paid dating, someone will come along in a few years and upset the free model and take over. I think it will be in terms of matching capability and authenticity. Myspace and Facebook are just one example of this.

Fling aren’t the only ones who screw up their autoresponder emails. Check this one out I got from ALT.com:
