OkCupid Redesign Notes

by David Evans on November 28, 2008   in Dating Sites

okcupidLifestreaming.jpgOKCupid has gone through a redesign. I like the new recent activity tabs, makes it easy to see what others are up to. Many forward-looking dating sites are implementing activity streams. If you know what a Facebook wall is, that’s basically what dating sites are beginning to offer.

I checked out the forum, there is a lot of activity there, but I couldn’t find a decent description of what’s changed in recent weeks. Calling Sam Yagan, what’s the story?

With the redesign, OKCupid has clearly taken over the young-n-hip dating site award from FastCupid. Look at the comparison between OKCupid and Fastcupid. Fastcupid has been stuck at the same traffic level for years now. Penthouse is obviously not treating it like a first-class site in their network, which is shame. Back in the Day, Fastcupid, when it was part of SpringStreet Networks, was the best dating site out there, bar none. They were way ahead of the majority of dating sites in terms of functionality for years. Not enough marketing dollars spent and traffic-driving partnerships forged = existing in the dead zone.
The internet dating industry is lives and dies by traffic. If you can’t afford it or don’t understand the intricacies of Internet marketing, don’t bother playing the game, you’re wasting your money and other people’s time.

OKCupid is a waste of time. It is full of idiots who fail to realise that it is supposed be a dating site (hence the name) and are only interested in tests or friends.

The owners are just as bad and are more interested in redesigns than adding features (especially features that work).

I couldn’t disagree more. OKCupid has implemented a number of great features and constantly improves the site.

I am fully supportive of OKCupid. It is NOT just a dating site since obviously the creators have taken the time and effort to encourage social networking through the new activity tabs, forums, journals, etc.

It’s become a welcome time-waster when I’m tired of browsing profiles. Also, those who complain must remember that it’s a free site, and a darn good one. I was attracted to OKC first because of the aesthetics. Sorry PlentyofFish, but I hate browsing you!

I’ve also gotten decent dating prospects from OKC. Those who are on there for something other than dating make for an environment that has less pressure.

I’m glad that the creators are constantly improving the site (but not crazy about their new mail system). I only wish they’d hire me to work for them! Hello? How about an e-newsletter or dating advice section? :D

I think the changes has totally maid the free dating service a mess.
