I agree that background-check and fraud-detection systems are complementary — each has its strengths and weaknesses. Scott’s blog post describes “check out the other guy” background-check systems, where the other guy may have provided a valid identity that is not his own. One of the strengths of Honesty Online’s verification service is that we ask the user to check him/herself out and meet a much higher standard than merely confirming that the identity exists.
