San Francisco Social Networking Conference – July 10-11

by David Evans on May 21, 2008 in Dating Events

If if you’re in San Francisco after the 4th you might want to check out the Social Networking Conference. The event is part mobile, enterprise and business networking. I’m thinking there will be a different crowd from the Miami event due to the fact that most companies are based in the SF Bay area.

I shall be there – obviously I shall be sat over in the dating section of the conference, which seems to be getting much less representation at this event than usual :(

Still it will be interesting to speak with mobile and business social networks to learn more about what is going on in their market.

Mark is trying to work both sides of the aisle with varying degrees of success depending on the location of his events. Just look at the popularity of the EU conferences compared to Asia or the juggernaut which is the Miami dating conference.

Miami should probably stay dating and drop the social networking focus.

I know most of the people running social networks in the Bay area and they all know what each other is doing. Otherwise you are a vendor selling into the space, in which case you want someone like me repping you. You’re not going to get inside the inner circle at a conference. That’s the way the social networking business works by and large.

SF is definitely not a dating conference and this year seems less focused on mobile than business networking.

I think consistency and clarity of what the shows are about and some top-notch talent are needed to make these shows a success. Otherwise I get this feeling of “whats the west coast show about this year?”

People will always pay a lot to be in proximity of the movers and shakers, if they are in attendance. The question is how many people will pay?

I always say it’s the conversation in the hallways that make a great conference, the speakers are a distraction unless you are new the the scene.

Curious what other people get out of these conferences?
