SinglesNet vs. Mate1 Advertising and Search Terms

by David Evans on April 23, 2008 in Marketing,Traffic

singlesnetmate1ads.jpgSinglesnet is soundly thrashing Mate1 in the quest for online dating traffic dominance. We can thank Marc Porcelli, Chief Marketing Officer, for the babes at Singlesnet.

singlesnetads.jpgEven SinglesNet is advertising other dating sites now. Will people really going to go to a site called usearchlocal? Today I read some research that women respond to dating site ads that have women in them more than ads with men.

Mate1 is learning that sexy advertising doesn’t always work.

ClickZ takes a look at Sponsored Link Impressions and Top 25 Companies by Top Three Search Terms for February 2008.

Mate1 is getting traffic by using match.com search terms. True.com and Blackpeoplemeet are doing the same thing. It appears SinglesNet is advertising more than Mate1, with 2 billion link impressions vs. 1.4 billion.

True.com spent $3.5 million on online advertising in November 2007.

Singlesnet.com has been amassing a growing mountain of complaints regarding its trade practices. As of November 25, 2008, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office (617-727-8400) has been investigating 21 complaints, all received within the past two years. The Better Business Bureau has taken down its review of this company, ostensibly for a “re-review”. Reviews of this website abound on the Internet-please be careful.

As of January 16, 2009, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office (617-727-8400) is now busier than ever, investigating 2 more complaints (now up to 23 complaints) against Singlesnet.com.

As of December 8, 2010… still no one cares. seriously guys? 23 whole complaints, and you think the Attorney General’s Office is “busy” because of that? Guess what; no one gives a ship.

Although, the part about how “women respond to dating site ads that have women in them more than ads with men” is interesting, and will keep that in mind when advertising.
