There are quite a few entrepreneurs in the dating space currently making headlines.

Never one to mince words, Markus Frind, founder of PlentyofFish, wrote How I started A Dating Empire in 2006. A good read for dating site startups.

Here are some gems from Markus from the Webmasterworld forums (a fantastic resource). I don’t normally re-post from forums but these are classics circa 2003:

…I made $139 off 288 visitors. I haven’t the faintest idea how that compares to what others get, but my site is fairly small and i suspect i am making peanuts.. but hey it pays the hosting costs.

I want to learn how to become one of those people, and that entails asking questions :) How does one go about netting 100k/month? I would assume there is some kind of $ range you target for.. Whats the point of selling 1000 $1.00 posters when you only need to 50 users buying a $20 item.

Markus clearly figured things out.

I’ll keep adding to the new startup category (see sidebar) for those of you building out new sites, or veterans looking for a shot of inspiration.
