Michael Hummel, CEO of Positive Friends, a new online support network for those affected by STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), wrote:

Positive Friends is a free social support and dating website for those affected by STDs. Our community is built around our member’s needs, and we offer them the ability to engage without giving up your anonymity. We have an on staff sex therapist to answer all their questions, and a growing community to draw upon for peer-to-peer support. Our focus is not only on building relationships, but also promoting STD awareness through education and social marketing campaigns, such as Think Positive. Positive Friends supports the STD positive individual, as well as their friends and family.

The site is the result of two years of R&D and features new technology intended to provide members living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Herpes, and HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) varying levels of privacy they can personalize to their own comfort levels. Utilizing proprietary ID masking technology, members can manipulate images they upload, giving them the option of cropping or blurring their photos, and to participate without compromising their anonymity.

Anyone with an STD knows how painful it can be to come clean with a potential partner. Positive Friends looks like it could be a serious contender for PositiveSingles, STD Friends and STD Match.

Press release.
