Saw this coming from a mile away. Via Mashable:

After being overrun with spam and fake profiles, Hot Or Not has decided to reverse course and end their free dating experiment. According to an email from founders Jim and James:

“…You also warned us that this would probably lead to more spammers and fake profiles. You were right, this is exactly what happened. The spammers got aggressive to the point where they were screwing up the system, even causing the “someone wants to meet you emails to not be sent for periods as long as 5 days.

The site is reverting to $5.95 memberships.

It stands to reason they would do this, since most dating sites that allow free profiles are drowning in false/fraudulent profiles posted by international organized (or disorganized) crime groups. Though there are automated ways to screen for many of these, since the bad guys are not very bright. I would encourage every dating site to add screening logic that can flag dumb criminal profiles.

The best matchmaking site, I found so far, is OurLikes.com. It has best user experience, quality and features. A perfect match is guranteed.
