For those of you without millions of dollars and a stellar development team to build your FaceBook application, may I suggest Dolphin as a viable dating site platform option. Version 6 Beta is out now.
I’ve always said I would never run a dating site, but I never said I wouldn’t build one. So here I am in the middle of building one for a client. After some pretty careful consideration and due diligence, we’re using Dolphin. Even though there are some less-than-intuitive ways that Dolphin does things, so far so good. It’s a far cry from the complaining I’ve read on this blog in the comments, which at this point seems kind of surprising. Then again, lots of the complaints came from people that should have used an ASP, or hosted dating site service like World Dating Partners or any of the other contenders in the Tools & Services Directory.
I will have a much more thorough review of Dolphin at a later date. For now, sleeves are rolled up, functional specification in hand, we are building what I hope is going to be a great site full of features that have never been attempted before on a dating site, or social networking for that matter.

We are very pleased that you’ve chosen Dolphin and we really hope you would stick to it. Let me tell you a few things to make your Dolphin experience better:
1. Dolphin 6 is a beta software and I really recommend using it in testing environment only, for now. Give it a short wait (a week or two) and we will improve it significantly.
2. Dolphin is a free software and we are open for any feedback. We would love to hear from you and can tweak Dolphin really fast if need be.
3. Expertzzz.com is a good place to seek for custom mods and support services.
4. Boonex.net is the place to look for documentation and development info.
5. Boonex.org is a good place to discuss functionality and share your ideas.
6. Don’t buy into “professional dating software” offers. They are not better than Dolphin in any aspect. Dolphin code evolved from commercial software - aeDating and has been improved significantly since then. We examine rivals every day and I can tell you that Dolphin is way ahead of any competition, even though it’s free.
7. If you find yourself stuck somewhere or feel dissatisfied - pop-in to Boonex.org and let us know. Most likely we would be able to help you out.

Hope you’ll love Dolphin. If you ever decide to add a/v chat. IM, presence, recorder, MP3 player, Desktop app, etc. consider Ray. Unlike others it’s a no-limit one-time fee software which does it all. And with full control.
p.s. I’m reading your blog regularly and I must say that you’re doing great job often coming up with up-to-day news. Thank you a lot.

Gads! First time I ever found this entry and it came in here way last June and only Andrey has posted a comment to it. But it looks like it already has a number of links that are really great and will be helpful to anyone wanting to start a community.
At any rate, I’m hoping to get together an online manual of how to start a Dolphin community for…naturally, the “Complete Idiot” since I am extremely competent in that area of knowing how a complete idiot thinks…since I was born one myself.
And look, I am not joking at all about being very incompetent when it has come to understanding way too much of the terminology in here.
Which I hope to use to our advantage and will allow me to make the manual fun to read about the mistakes I made along with teaching, one of our hopefully new family members, how to avoid making those same mistakes themselves.
Such as, and this is just a very small example, repeatedly telling my installer that my DNS settings were all set when in fact they weren’t causing him to do nothing but waste his time and effort trying to perform an installation that couldn’t take place.
Believe me you can trust that I will help out the newbees by helping them avoid a lot of other pitfalls I fell into as well and that I am simply too ashamed of to admit to at this time. But I could really use a hand in a lot of other areas for the manual. Such as getting over my phobia of root because I am terrified to totally screw up the site when I am in there and I would like to explain to the neophytes what they can alter and not have to be terrified of…along with what they most definitely do not want to even touch.
And those are just a couple of examples. Because honestly, it is tragic what I do not know about HTTP, ftp, css and a shit load of other things which those of you who do understand them could help me enormously in the writing of the manual by giving me any special links or explanations that you have found especially useful in the wisdom you have acquired and that we could hand down to the next generation or give it as a lateral pass to those of your own age or send it out as a Hail Mary pass to someone of my age praying that the teachings will be simple enough so that those whose brains are already beginning to mal function will be able to understand it…before their mind simply goes entirely.
Well, I hope you get the idea of what it is I would like to do and what I would like it to become…and also hoping we can make it good enough to ask for a contribution for it and get some…that is if the readers find it useful enough…to warrant one.
And please do feel free to write a paragraph or more for it or suggest topics to be covered or anything at all including sending some questions to ask the reader and answers for them that we can place at the end of the “How to Book” so that after they have read the manual they will be sure they have a fairly good idea of what they are taking on.
SINGERS AND BANDS SHOULD TAKE A CUE FROM THE BIRDS…THEY DON’T CHARGE AN ADMISSION FEE TO HEAR THEIR SONGS IN THE COLISEUM AND AMPHITHEATRE OF THE WORLD THAT THEY PLAY TO. AND THEY ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO JUST GET ALONG AND TO SING FOR ALL OF US TO ENJOY BY SERENADING AN OCCASIONAL INDIVIDUAL…FOR SOME THING FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN GOLD OR EVEN MONEY…BIRD SEED.
Play ball! and GOOOOOOOOOOOO DOLPHIN! ;-)
And also, I hope that just because this original post was written in June…it is not going to die without a lot more comments to it and useful information you all have from your priceless experience and knowledge.
