PlentyofFish Has the Perfect Bait

by David Evans on May 23, 2007 in Dating Sites

I couldn’t improve on that classic headline in today’s Wall Street Journal article about PlentyofFish.

Reporter Lee Comes calls PlentyofFish a “model for the next generation of Web entrepreneurship.” He actually travelled to PoF world headquarters, which is Markus’s spare bedroom. At one point during the visit, 43,000 people were at PlentyOfFish, with 500 Web pages a second being sent out. That’s some serious traffic.

    Hi David,
Missed you at the last couple of Social Media Club events. Next up is June 21 in Watertown – Measuring the ROI of Social Media. Online dating seems like a perfect ROI measure ;-]
By the way, the reporter at WSJ is Lee Gomes.

    we offer:

    - fake profiles
    - user photographs that are obviously model shots
    - Wendy, our hot ‘creator’ of the website is really a dude
from Toronto named Darren who has another dating website
    - We offer BIYC get togethers but they are in collaboration
with Darren’s PAY service to meet people. Darren even promotes
    BIYC on his PAY website
    - We spam Facebook DAILY to dozens of cities
    - We add you to Myspace and SPAM your wall every weekend
    - Our ads on Facebook all use a handful of the same photos but
we use different names for each photo.

    Dare to compare?

We want you to join our free service so you will clicky click on the
Google ads and make us money. Forget the fact we spam hundreds of
times per day and that the women on the site are FAKEs put up
by us. The photos we use for the profiles are found on model clip-art
    cd’s.
