OkCupid Design Overhaul

by David Evans on May 11, 2007 in Dating Sites

OkCupid has launched a totally new design. I can’t log in to every page because I forgot my password and the system says I’ve tried to retrieve it five times in a row, which I haven’t.

Still free, looks clean, what’s not to like? Well, a few things come to mind.

Stock photos. Some photos are of users, other look like they came off a CD.

I hate the SEO junk at the bottom of the home every page. Google, do us a favor and stop boosting PageRank because a site lists terms and geographies on their home page. Letting SEO get in the way of good design sucks.

Whitespace is good, there is almost too much of it and while the ads are way down at the bottom of the page, who’s going to click on them?

I like the FAQ, nicely done. Why don’t more sites put this much time into theirs?

I’ll click around  more when I can log in again.

I never liked cupid, it seemed a little fake. I see way too many stock photos, if you look at other dating sites you find the same ones…

I have to agree with you, about hating all the “site lists terms and geographies” at the bottom of the page. Other than that it seems fairly clean of in-yer-face advertising, which is good.
