Notasinner wrote in to say that he has heard rumors that eHarmony is going to focus more on the Christian dating market. Given the background of eHarmony founders, I don’t see how that is possible, and I would think international expansion would be top of their ToDo list.
I’ve been underwhelmed with the dating industry’s foray into the Christian market, save for a few early sites that have been successful on a small scale, but haven’t been able to take full advantage of the enormous number of Christian singles and lack of quality sites catering to their needs.
Is Christian dating the next big market for dating sites? Sign up a network of mega-churches, filter people based on faith, tie in social networking and you have yourself a nice business.

Oh darn, and here I was thinking along that ChristianCafe.com was a quality Christian singles site that has had tremendous success over the last 8 years.
Judging my our #1 ranking (of the top 30 of ALL dating sites) for testimonials (see Mark Brooks’ post on http://onlinepersonalswatch.typepad.com/news/2007/04/new_ranking_by_.html), I’d wager our members would also beg to differ with y’all, too;-)
If all we have to do to achieve more than “small scale success” (however you define that) is follow your simple steps (get that “network” of mega-churches, filtering based on faith, & tying in social networking) – man, what have we been doing all these years spinning our wheels without your expert guidance, Mr. Dave?;-)
hey sam, you should consider reaching out to joe shuh over at MyChurch.org. a ChristianCafe co-brand on his site would be a big hit for the both of you.
life is good!

Sam, ChristianCafe is definitely one for the success column. I’m talking about going after a larger audience, which would benefit from alliances with large church organizations and broadening the focus to be more inclusive and social.
The testomonial bit from Mark was a nice piece of marketing, but I don’t trust them.
Hey Said, how are ya? We’ve contacted MyChurch.org, but they aren’t taking ad orders at the moment.
Dave, as for going after a “larger audience” by allying ourselves with “large church organizations” – if this is so easy, why has no one done it (except eHarmony – and, their founders’ backgrounds are Christian, BTW)?
Try calling a Focus on the Family type organization and let me know if you get past the receptionist – you and the other 1,000 people that week trying to sell them on targetting their listenership/readership/membership everything under the sun.
As for Mark’s report on testimonials, what’s not to trust? We’re making up those 1,200+ success stories? Go check ‘em out for yourself, mate: http://www.christiancafe.com/guests/testimonials/index.jsp
We have better things to do than make up success stories. Why would we need to, anyway?
David, Relationships.com is another successful online community dedicated to Christian singles. Give it a look: http://www.relationships.com

Well i for one would love eharmony to change to a christian dating site. They have a very easy to use template and i think it would weed out a lot of the people that are there for the wrong reasons.
