I’ve always said that Myspace is more about voyeurism than anything else for most people.
Nisan Gabbay, editor of Startup Review, has done a case study based on an interview with James Hong, co-founder and CEO of HotorNot. Boasting 500,000 – 600,000 active users, HOTorNOT is making somewhere between $5M - $10M per year in revenue. I just clicked through about 100 people on there, totally addictive mindless fun.

You might think it’s mindless, but actually you’re training your mind to judge people on one dimension only (looks) which will just make you more superficial and hard to please.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for linking to my post regarding HOTorNOT. I agree with your statement that voyeurism is a large part of many social Internet services and that it’s impact on product design shouldn’t be overlooked. HOTorNOT is a perfect example.
Thanks,
Nisan
