Silicon Beat says Friendster has raised an additional $3.1 million. Look at the Alexa ranking (sigh, the only ranking I could find easily, I don’t trust it much either.)

I am liking Google Trends, look at this comparison of search volume on Friendster and Facebook. Just last week I was doing this manually with Marketwatch data, having datapoints tied to events, press releases, etc is great.

Friendster is launching web chat soon, from Userplane or built offshore by the company itself. This is news to me, I thought they had chat all along.

Friendster Ads, massive traction in the Philippines, Friendster is helping define a new breed of social sites that find their primary base in countries besides the US.

Scott Rafer has more.

Friendster is as DEAD as a dodo.

All the users fled the filipino spam and performance lag and went to MySpace.

I just can’t imagine that Friendster got another 3.1 MM. What are the financiers thinking? I agree with Jon, Friendster is as DEAD as a freakin dodo. The site stinks, the tech outdated, the users don’t even live here. What’s the point- to link up with users in Asia? Most likely not. We really need a new site to showcase a way for friends to meet up in the online world and beyond. More to come….
