Anyone Tried LSD?

by David Evans on April 3, 2006   in Events

I read about LSD while checking out the new Wordpress blogging software. Live Speed Dating technical details here. The website at www.livespeedating.com/ seems to be down at the moment.

People login to the application and then signup/checkin into the event they would like to participate in. At the scheduled time of the event, the LSD kicks in. The application pairs off people into group of one-on-one sessions. During each sessions the users have an audio video chat with the person they are paired with. At the end of the session the user gets to vote and give a testimonial for their partner. Then they move on to the next partner they are paired with and so on until the final session.

As long as you can see and hear the person you are speaking to, so you know they aren’t lying about age or general appearance, it seems like it would be a pretty valid thing to me! Not that different from speed dating in person I guess-just easier to say “no” if you don’t want to give them your number :)

Match.com did a version of Online Speed Dating two years ago which I thought was very impressive. A series of 10 three-minute IM conversations over the course of a half-hour. It was about $13.95 for the service. I think they dismantled it before they got rid of IM. Glad someone else is picking up the ball. For the many who date online with few chances of meeting, this at least gets them in the door…
